Lamborghini have officially announced the successor to their much-loved and hugely popular Gallardo supercar, which has been around for a whole decade, until the last car rolled out earlier this year. The all-new Huracàn is the new kid on the block, but it packs all the knowledge, technology and insanity that Lamborghini are famous for. So, you get your exquisite roadcar and tracktool all packed into one extreme, lightweight and drop-dead gorgeous package.
If you haven’t figured it out already, the new Huracàn LP610-4 breaks up into ‘Huracàn’, a late 19th century fighting bull from Alicante, ‘Longitudinal Posterior’ or longitudinally laid-out, rear-mounted engine, 610 PS and 4WD. Of course, those horses are Italian thoroughbreds and the four-wheel drive is without a doubt fettled by the boffins that are a mix of Lamborghini, Audi and quattro GmbH. Yes, it will soon head out all set to cream the crème de la crème.
Save for the peak output though, the numbers are familiar. The 5.2-litre V10 engine has been tuned to produce 610 PS at 8,250 RPM with a peak 560 Nm of torque coming in at 6,500 RPM. However, it’s the way the engine works that’s different. The Iniezione Diretta Stratificata (IDS) uses a smart combination of direct and indirect fuel injection, resulting in higher power and torque output. A 7-speed dual-clutch transmission handles shifting duties, sending the power to the completely electronically-controlled all-wheel drive system. With these additions, another number to note is the overall weight: 1,422 kg – 82 kg more than the ol’ Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera, but the power-to-weight ratio is now 429 PS/tonne.
Performance? 0-100 km/h takes 3.2 seconds, 0-200 km/h takes 9.9 seconds and the top whack is 325 km/h. Three drive modes – Strada (Road), Sport (er.. Sport) and Corsa (Track) allow fine-tuning of the drive experience to suit your current surroundings. Fuel consumption, for those who are wondering, is claimed at 12.5 litres per 100 km on the EU cycle. That translates to 8 km/l; excellent by V10 standards!
The Lamborghini Huracàn LP610-4 will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2014 with deliveries set to commence from Spring 2014.
Finally, here’s what it sounds like:
