Company targets doubling sales globally to 1.5 million units
Skoda auto IndIa recently began the production of Rapid, their first entry-level compact sedan, at mother company Volkswagen’s plant at Chakan, near Pune.
This sedan, based on the VW Vento, was also showcased at the recent Frankfurt Motor Show. Interestingly, the Rapid will appear in Indian showrooms within a month, even before its début in Europe or China.
The compact sedan will be using the same engine that powers the Vento and, keeping the common platform in mind, we expect that the Rapid will be priced competitively at about Rs 6 lakh for the base version. At the Frankfurt Motor Show the Czech company also showcased their small hatchback, the Citigo, which may also be introduced in India, positioned below the Fabia, by next year.
