This is the soon-to-be-launched Renault Modus, spotted in New Delhi by Car India reader Navjot Singh.
This is the last model to complete Renault’s five-car plan for India, which includes the Fluence sedan which received a lukewarm response, the popular Duster compact-SUV, the Pulse hatchback that competes with the likes of Hyundai i20 and Skoda Fabia, and the upcoming Scala sedan which we recently drove.
The Modus could be priced between Rs 4.5 lakh to 6 lakh and pitted against small cars like the Hyundai i10 and Maruti Suzuki Ritz, among others. In fact the rear of the tall-boy design Renault does resemble the Ritz, but the French company has added a good mix of creases and curves to make the Modus look very appealing from every angle. The car spied at the national capital seems to be the production model, doing the final rounds of city testing.
Going by the Nissan-Renault alliance, we believe there won’t be any surprises under the hood of the new hatchback, and expect the Modus to carry the same set of engines as offered in the Nissan Micra. That is, a 1.2-litre petrol motor and a 1.5-litre dCi engine that also powers the Renault Duster. We expect the Renault Modus to be launched as early as next month, and await with bated breath for the company to officially announce it.
