Mercedes-Benz India have announced that they have started local production of the CLA Class, making it the seventh car with bearing the three-pointed star to be made in India. They have also started making the GLA 200 (petrol) locally. As a result of this localisation move, the company has been able to slash prices of both the CLA and the GLA by Rs 1 to 2 lakh. The CLA Class now starts at Rs 30.7 lakh for the 200 CDI Style to Rs 33.9 lakh for the 200 CDI Sport. The petrol variant of the car – the CLA 200 Sport – now carries a sticker of Rs 32.9 lakh. (All prices are ex-showroom).
The statement from the company said that the local production will help Mercedes-Benz to cater to the exceptional demand that is expected at the onset of festive season. Furthermore, this will also help the company address the wait list of the CLA across markets.
“The CLA with its stunning design, technological innovations and multiple segment first attributes, is already a winning product in our portfolio. It has been rapidly acquiring new customers to the brand and replicating its global success in India as well. We are extremely satisfied with our CLA strategy, which has contributed majorly to our New Generation Cars growth and redefined the segment completely. We are confident that the local production will make the CLA even more attractive for the discerning buyers with additional value propositions and increased availability,” said Eberhard Kern, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India.
This is the first time that the CLA will be produced anywhere outside Europe.
