Porsche 911 991.II India Launch

Porsche India have introduced the updated 991.II range of the iconic 911 sports car in India from Rs 1.39 crore (ex-showroom, Mumbai).

The new 911 line-up of sports cars all have the new downsized turbocharged 3.0-litre boxer-six engines, whereas the Turbo models have a heavily revised 3.8-litre boxer-six. The 911 has been made available in eight variants – the Carrera, Carrera S, Turbo, Turbo S, Carrera Cabriolet, Carrera S Cabriolet, Turbo Cabriolet and Turbo S Cabriolet – for now.

The 991.II 911 cars receive a familiar front end, new lower air-dam and body work, but the rear is where most of the changes lie. Between the new 3D tail-lamp clusters, the engine vents are now vertical slats. The new 2,981-cc flat-six lies beneath, making 370 PS at 6,500 RPM and 450 Nm between 1,700-5,000 RPM in the Carrera. The same 3.0-litre unit is tuned up to 420 PS and 500 Nm, at the same RPM, in the Carrera S. Both are two-tenths quicker than their predecessors and as much as 11.49 per cent more efficient. India only receives the seven-speed PDK twin-clutch automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive.

On the equipment front, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) is now being offered as standard kit on all 911 cars. The Porsche Communication Management (PCM) also standard, makes communication and connectivity much easier on the move. The Carrera S meanwhile receives a 0.5-inch wider rear wheel-rim with 305-section rubber. Active rear-axle steering, derived from the GT3 and Turbo S, is also on the options list for the S.

Porsche have also introduced the new 911 Turbo and Turbo S. The 991.II Turbo packs a reworked 3.8-litre flat-six with 540 PS. The Turbo S gets larger, more animalistic variable-geometry turbochargers that bump output up to 580 PS and drop the 0-100 km/h sprint time to 2.9 seconds. The Turbo models also get the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) twin-clutch automatic transmission but pack four-wheel-drive.

The Mumbai ex-showroom pricing for the new 911 range starts at Rs 1.39 crore while in Delhi, it starts from Rs 1.42 crore. All 911 models are imported as completely built-up units (CBU).
