Reduced power to result in decreased emission levels
Mitsubishi, one of the leading Japanese car makers, have converted the Pajero to become a BS-IV compliant vehicle.
The move seeks to boost the sales of the car in the Indian market. The Pajero has been registering modest sales figures in the Indian market due to its comparatively high emission level.
The Pajero engine now produces 108 PS of power as against 118 PS in the earlier version. The reduction in power will result in decreased emission levels, making it compliant with the new BS-IV emission norms.
Besides a reduction in the power, there has not been any change in the engine of the vehicle and it will come powered by the same indirect-injection engine. Though the company has not announced any new price figures for the Pajero, it is expected to be launched with quite a few cosmetic upgrades.
It may be recalled here that the government of India had announced the application of the new BS-IV emission norms in 13 major cities of the country in April 2010. This resulted in a number of car models, including the iconic Maruti 800, Chevrolet Tavera and Hyundai Getz, etc, being discontinued in these 13 cities.
