Porsche India have introduced the new turbocharged 911 991 II range in India from Rs 1.35 crore (ex-Mumbai).
Porsche were given quite some flak by purists for giving in to the inevitable trend of downsizing and turbocharging, but now that they’re here, they seem to be just as irresistible. Porsche have silently introduced eight new models: the 911 Carrera, 911 Carrera S, 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S in coupé and cabriolet versions. The first four are powered by the company’s new 3.0-litre flat-six twin-turbo petrol engine. The Carrera gets 370 PS at 6,500 RPM with 450 Nm of torque available between 1,700 and 5,000 RPM, while the Carrera S models get a more potent 420 PS and 500 Nm at the same revs.
The new 911 Carrera is being listed with a choice of the seven-speed manual or the seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) with rear-wheel drive, but we believe most imports will be the PDK transmission variants. The new, more powerful Turbo and Turbo S (with a capital T) get further tuned-up versions of the 3.8-litre motor, making 540 PS and 580 PS respectively, the latter getting optimised variable geometry turbochargers, different from the former for the first time. The new Porsche 911 range will soon expand to include the ‘4’ all-wheel-drive models for all four versions introduced, as well as the Targa 4 and Targa 4S glass-top convertible models, followed in by the new GT3 and GT3 RS available by order.
