Maserati will show the Alfieri concept car at the Dubai Motor Show in November.
Set to become the archetypal for the future models from the Trident, the Alfieri is a new take on traditional Maserati values. Not only is it expected to be the sportiest and most technologically up-to-date model, it is also set to be the lightest Maserati sports car yet. The name ‘Alfieri’ comes from the that of the most prominent of the Maserati brothers – the engineering genius who founded ‘Officine Alfieri Maserati’ in Bologna over a century ago.
Project mastermind Lorenzo Ramaciotti said, “The Alfieri is a transition point between 100 glorious years of history and the future that is opening up before us.”
Drawing inspiration from the 1954 Maserati A6 GCS that was designed by Pininfarina, the new Alfieri is a 2+2 sports coupé created to clearly reflect Maserati’s racing heritage and DNA. A low nose, unmistakeable Maserati grille adorned with the Poseidon’s Trident, and flanked by aggressive head-lamps, with the three air intakes behind the front wheel arches, mark the Alfieri as the future Maserati to look out for.
With the growing trend of downsizing engines and shaving off of weight, and from what we’ve heard during discussions, we collect that the Alfieri will not really be positioned at the top of the range, neither will it be a stepping stone to the brand. It will, however, pack all the excitement, energy and character that Maserati sports cars are famous for. Expect a twin-turbo V6 and lightweight construction when the car’s details are revealed, but, of course, we are not ones to rule out a V8 altogether. The Alfieri will be showcased at the 2015 Dubai Motor Show to be held between the 10th and the 14th of next month.
Maserati India head Bojan Jankulovski, had confirmed earlier during the brand launch in the country that their global portfolio would eventually on sale here; that includes the Alfieri and the upcoming Levante luxury SUV, as well as limited global models. And if the excitement levels are anything like the Ghibli diesel and S Q4 petrol pair we drove earlier this year, we just can’t wait!
