The top-of-the-line Maruti Suzuki Dzire with the AMT has joined our garage.

For years, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire has been the most popular compact sedan in our market and its latest iteration has re-defined what we have come to expect from both the Dzire itself and compact sedans in general. While we are sad about the engine losing one cylinder, the Dzire has made up for it in other areas, including handling, ride quality, and comfort. These improvements did not go unnoticed and it bagged our Car of the Year 2025 Award.
Following a few weeks of using the car daily, here are a few things that stood out for me. Most people appreciate the new styling because it is a marked departure from the previous generation and improves the visual appeal. The automatic start-stop helps with fuel efficiency but its programming is not conducive to driving in bumper-to-bumper city traffic. It switches off the moment the car stops and takes a couple of seconds to start and get moving and that incites a lot of agitation on the part of impatient motorists in a traffic jam. So, I usually switch it off in such cases. One thing that could be improved is the multi-view camera. While it does cover a lot of area, elements on the periphery of the camera’s view develop a curvature. For example, straight walls appear curved. We believe the technical term is “barrel distortion”.
