Maruti Suzuki Brezza – Powertrain

Maruti Suzuki Brezza

Why fix something if it ain’t broke? Even so, Maruti Suzuki have tweaked the K-series powertrain to make it even more refined and efficient. The “K15C” in-line four-cylinder petrol engine produces 103 hp and 137 Nm. It has the Suzuki Smart Hybrid Vehicle System (SHVS) mild-hybrid system with an integrated starter-generator and dedicated support battery helping with automatic start/stop, energy recuperation for improved efficiency, acceleration and even torque fill assisting the engine. The start-stop is very well calibrated and cuts and restarts the engine in an ideal manner, in both manual and automatic variants.

The gearbox choices are a big change, too. The five-speed manual is standard and there is a new six-speed automatic transmission with the addition of paddle-shifters on the steering wheel for a sportier driving feel.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza – Ride and Handling

Maruti Suzuki Brezza

We drove the new Brezza in Chennai from the bustling city centre to the open and picturesque East Coast Road (ECR) towards Mahabalipuram, and back again. The previous Brezza rode well then but it feels even better now. With a MacPherson strut set-up at the front with coil springs and dampers, plus a torsion beam and springs at the rear, the Brezza plants the wheels down surely but not firmly. The ride quality is excellent as are the damping characteristics. It absorbs bumps and undulations with ease and nary a thud filters into the cabin. It, thus, feels planted and sure-footed even at highway speed. The handling is enhanced by the light steering feel and good brake set-up. The steering response was a little too dull and could do with better calibration. That’s the only blemish on the new Brezza’s otherwise sparkling record.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza – Personalisation

This is a big new factor! The new Brezza comes with a host of styling additions—including bumper add-ons, door visors, cladding, garnishes, upholstery, wood trim, carpets, and even the logo projector lamp and wireless charger for lower variants that can be purchased individually or even as curated accessory packs. Yes, Maruti Suzuki are offering a rugged “Terrascape” pack at Rs 39,990, or a sharp “Metroscape” pack at Rs 42,990.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza – Price and Rivals

The new Maruti Suzuki Brezza starts at Rs 7.99 lakh for the LXi MT and goes up to Rs 13.80 lakh for the ZXi+ AT, that’s a jump of Rs 30,000 for the LXi, but a higher Rs 2.3 lakh for the top model. This shows how much has gone into the new model. The dual-tone scheme and accessory packs are extra, of course.
