Maruti has responded to the aggressively-priced Honda Amaze by launching the new Dzire Regal, also marking the fifth anniversary of the launch of the original Dzire.
The Dzire Regal is a limited edition variant that will be available only in the petrol VXi variant at an ex-showroom price of Rs 5.6 lakh in Delhi and Rs 5.95 lakh in Mumbai.
Changes to the interior include an integrated audio system (from the ZXi) with auto volume control and tweeters, a car perfume, armrests with wood inserts, stainless-steel door sills, a leather-wrapped steering wheel cover, beige faux leather cushions and embroidered seat covers, and beige floor mats. On the outside, the car comes in a new ‘serene blue’ color and has body-coloured electronically adjustable ORVMs (outside rear view mirrors) and mud flaps, and a rear parking sensor. The new grille, fog lamps, and wing mirrors have received a silver-finish treatment.
Maruti in the past has also launched special editions of its cars to counter launches from the competition, with the most recent being the Alto ‘Xplore’ in response to the Eon from Hyundai in 2011. The company sold 169,571 units of the Dzire in FY-2013 and currently has an order book of 50,000 Dzires. Honda is believed to have set up a capacity of 5,000 units a month for the Amaze and has already got 6,500 bookings, running into a waiting period of two months.
