The Goodwood Festival of Speed is an ideal platform for the debut of Mahindra Racing’s new Formula E car; the M4Electro. The event starts on June 29 and goes on until July 2. The car will be trying to set the fastest ‘hill run’ of the event on the 1.16-mile hill climb.
At the wheel will be Goodwood master and Mahindra driver, Nick Heidfeld. Heidfeld’s 1999 record of 41.60s – set in a McLaren MP4/13 Formula 1 car – remains unbeaten to date. Since beating that time isn’t a reasonable goal in an electric car, Heidfeld might be looking to demolish the fastest time for an electric vehicle (EV) on Goodwood’s hill (47.34s) – set in 2013 by a Lola-Drayson prototype sportscar – and the 66.09s set by the petrol-electric hybrid Porsche 918 Spyder.
Although, this a debut for the M4Electro, the car will commence racing only from the fourth season in December. Mahindra Racing have revealed that the four cars in the fourth season will have an additional 10 kW of power, taking it up to 180 kW. This could mean that next season’s races will be longer or faster.
