Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) have launched the new Etios Liva and the new Platinum Etios with a host of upgrades to the vehicles
Story: Team Car India
Toyota have launched upgraded versions of the new Etios, both sedan and hatchback. The hatchback Etios Liva range now starts at Rs 5.24 lakh for the petrol variant and Rs 6.61 lakh for the diesel variant. The Etios sedan, which has now been christened Platinum Etios, range starts at Rs 6.43 lakh for the petrol and Rs 7.56 lakh for the diesel variant. (All prices are ex-showroom in Mumbai)
Cosmetically, the front end has been redesigned to offer a more contemporary visage to the car while the rear end of the car has been tweaked to create a more premium feel with a chrome strip now garnishing the boot lid in the Platinum Etios. On the inside, the instrument cluster continues to be placed at the centre of the dashboard but is a new unit that combines Toyota’s signature Optitron instrumentation with a digital tachometer. The button for the central door lock has also been moved to the instrument panel for the door. At the rear, the seats are contoured differently to offer more comfort and fold down. There is also a foldable central armrest that has been added.
Mechanically the vehicle remains unchanged but Toyota have improved their focus on safety and have strengthened the chassis for better passenger protection. In a fabulous move they have also introduced airbags, ABS and ISOFIX child restraint system as standard equipment across the entire Etios range. According to crash tests conducted by Toyota, the new Etios offers as much adult occupant protection and child occupant protection as a vehicle with a four star Global NCAP rating. The Etios however is yet to be evaluated by Global NCAP.
“We are proud of our Indian engineering team who have taken the leadership in enhancing the most dependable sedan incorporating each and every customer feedback. The new Platinum Etios and new Etios Liva caters to the changing taste of Indian customers with unbeaten safety enhancements and an array of exciting improvements in styling,” said Akito Tachibana, Managing Director, TKM.
