Manufacturers spend a fair amount of funds on researching names for their vehicles. However, Lamborghini don’t seem to have any problem with that. In line with Ferrucio Lamborghini’s 100th birth anniversary, the Italian marque intends to call the flagship model the ‘Centenario’. Ferrucio, born in 1916, served the Italian armed forces in WWII as a mechanic and subsequently started building farm equipment and tractors using surplus army hardware. After owning several exotics from Alfa Romeo, Lancia and Maserati, as well as the Mercedes 300 SL and the Jaguar E-Type, he subsequently got himself a Ferrari 250 GT. However, the trigger for his automobile manufacturing venture came from Enzo Ferrari himself. Enzo dismissed constructive criticism from Ferrucio who compared the clutch on the 250 GT to the one used in a tractor. It’s no wonder that the two companies continue to be arch rivals to this date.

The prospective Centenario will come with the LP770-4 suffix. The alpha-numeric acronym translates to a new performance benchmark from the 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12. The ‘4’ refers to the all-wheel-drive transmission. This means that the Centenario will crack the triple-digit mark in 2.7 seconds and is estimated to pull past the 350 km/h that the SV is capable of. Production will be limited to 20 units with a price tag of 1 million (Rs 7.4 crore approx) and will most likely make its presence felt at the Geneva Motor Show this coming March.
