Hyundai_Grand_i10_AT_1_webHyundai Motor India Ltd have brought in the automatic transmission-equipped version of the Grand i10.

The 4-speed automatic gearbox is offered with the 1.2-litre Kappa four-cylinder petrol engine. Contrary to the hopes and expectations of many, the Grand i10 CRDi will not be offered with the auto ‘box.

The Grand i10 has proven to be quite a different Hyundai, stepping up the game in the handling and dynamics department to levels previously unknown. The car’s abilities have reflected in the sales as it gains popularity as a car just as capable on the highway as it is in the city. Armed with the 1.2-litre petrol and the 1.1-litre diesel, the Grand i10 now gets a welcome addition in the form of the automatic petrol. With the 1.2-litre engine making 83 PS and 114 Nm, there is enough shove to get you moving. However, in the older i10, the gearbox did take its own time to decide shifts, especially when driven hard. We hope the new Grand i10 does the job better, and given the addition of a sequential manual mode, it should be very interesting indeed. Another concern was fuel economy; with dual VTVT, the 1.2 with the auto ‘box comes with an ARAI-certifed figure of 16.7 km/l – very impressive for an automatic.

The Grand i10 Automatic has been launched in two variants – Sportz AT, priced at Rs 5.65 lakh, and the Asta AT, priced at Rs 5.92 lakh, both ex-showroom, Delhi. The new car steps in and replaces the i10 automatic line-up, with the rest of the 1.2 Kappa-engined variants also getting the axe.
