Home / News / Honda’s Jazz-based urban SUV coming to India in 2014

Honda_Urban_SUV_FBHonda recently released teaser images of its new Jazz-based SUV, which will be previewed at the January 2013 Detroit Motor Show.

The company announced that the final design would have SUV cues along with a spacious interior to make for a very functional design. The sketch released by the company shows hints of the kink-shaped glasshouse from the CR-V with taillights moving from high up in the D-pillars to the tailgate. The concept will eventually take the form of a crossover vehicle to be positioned below the CR-V in Honda’s pecking order. The company is believed to have invested USD 800 million in its Celeya, Mexico facility to develop retooling capabilities for future derivatives.

Honda is likely to commercialise the concept vehicle by 2014 with its newly-developed 1.5 litre and 1.6 litre diesel engines possibly doing duty. The new SUV is expected to be launched in India in the same year and, if the positioned between the Jazz and the City (in terms of price and size), it could indeed form a very attractive proposition for Indian customers.
