Today American automotive giant General Motors have announced the cessation of operations at the company’s Halol plant located in Gujarat. GM had drastically reduced output from the Halol plant since 2015 in order to make the transition as smooth as possible. And now, the production at the Halol plant stopped completely. This indeed is a sad news, coming from a company like General Motors, however, the management have assured investors and stake holders that the employees have been compensated generously. GM have also kept the door open for all the employees, working at Halol, who wish to continue with the company by offering the option of shifting their job to the Talegaon plant in Maharashtra.

On this major development, Kaher Kazem, President and Managing Director of General Motors India said, “The consolidation of manufacturing at our Talegaon facility is an important milestone for GM India, that said, we are mindful of the impact on our employees at Halol. We have committed to support them through this necessary transition with generous separation payments or the option of continuity of employment at Talegaon.”

He added, “Since we first announced in 2015 that we would cease manufacturing at Halol, we have worked with all stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition, GM India is very grateful for the continued support of the Government of Gujarat throughout our time manufacturing at Halol and through this period of transition.

I would like to recognize all our employees for their dedication, professionalism and contributions over the many years of operation and also to our suppliers for their partnership and support.”
