Ford recently unveiled the Shelby GT350R, which is slated to arrive later this year. The new Mustang has also been called the most track-ready road-going Mustang ever built.
Ford and Carroll Shelby developed a road-racing version of the Ford Mustang in 1965 – the Shelby GT350 Competition Model. It was one of the most iconic Mustangs ever produced. The new GT350R continues to this racing legacy.
Under the hood, the GT350R sports Ford’s first-ever 5.2-litre, dual-overhead-cam V8 with a flat-plane crankshaft. This massive engine churns out over 500 PS and more than 542 Nm of torque – one of the most powerful naturally aspirated engines built by the company.
To help enhance the car’s performance, Ford has taken a few steps to reduce its weight by removing various components such as the air-conditioning, stereo system, rear seats, trunk floorboard, tyre sealer and inflater, and the exhaust resonators, making it 59 kgs lighter than the Shelby GT350. But for those enthusiasts who are seeking more comfort, Ford offers an optional Electronic Package which includes dual-zone AC, 8-inch infotainment system, turn mirrors and seven-speaker audio system.
Commenting on the occasion, Dave Pericak, Director, Ford Performance said, “This is the pinnacle of performance Mustangs today. The Shelby GT350R Mustang lays the groundwork for a story that will play out for years to come on the track and the street.”
This limited-production GT350R will be available in the US by the end of 2015.We expect to see the Mustang GT here in the near future, and since the company has unveiled the Shelby GT350R, maybe, just maybe we’ll see it arrive here soon as well.
