ford-figo-actionFord India is recalling over 1 lakh units of Figo hatchbacks and Classic sedans (old Fiesta) due to potential problems in suspension and power steering that could lead to fire and brake safety hazards.

About 1.11 lakh vehicles sold in India between January 2008 and December 2010 by the US auto-maker are being recalled for inspection for technical and engineering fitness. According to sources the company will carry out parts replacement in 17,665 cars. Ford is carrying out inspections on these batches of Figo and Classic to sort the issues related to Rear Twist Beam (RTB) and Power Steering Hose (PSH). A crack in the RTB can make the car defunct, while a defective PSH could lead to oil leakage and can even cause fire in extreme cases.

Interestingly, the number of cars being recalled is more than Ford India’s average annual sales of 92,665 cars in 2011-12.
