AA2_2012FerrarisToFlauntF1‘Kinetic energy recovery system’ likely to be part of it
If you thought that Ferrari’s productions cars do not have enough F1 technology aspects in them, you will be pleasantly surprised to learn that Ferrari boss, Luca de Montezemolo, is looking at introducing more of them in their road-going machines.

It is a known fact that most racing teams do all their research and development in racing itself so as to benefit from it in some way or the other in the production cars. However, after having so much in the current range of Ferraris already, it will be interesting to see what the Italian manufacturers are really aiming at.

The buzz in the industry is that the Prancing Horse is planning to bring the ‘kinetic energy recovery system’ (KERS) to its production cars. Basically, KERS is a technology that uses a battery, a super capacitor or a flywheel to obtain and store energy under braking and release it during acceleration when it is required the most. For example, in an overtaking manoeuvre. It is a very technological system and has proved itself extremely useful in F1 racing. However, getting such a thing on a production car would be a little too much. Nevertheless, the 599GTB Fiorano showcased last year at the Geneva Motor Show had KERS and that just shows what Ferrari are capable of.
