Mercedes-Benz have teased their new Maybach S 650 Cabriolet ahead of its reveal on November 16 at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The Maybach brand was resurrected as a sub-brand last year when the Mercedes-Maybach S 600 was launched. The Maybach name was set to see badging on more Mercedes rumps but, until now, it remains the exclusive domain of the S-Class and its variations. The latest is the S 650 Cabriolet.
While it looks identical dimensionally, we expect a treat to the senses as Maybach treatment will adorn the exterior and the interior to give you feast for the eyes as well as pamper you silly when seated – hopefully front and rear.
No news about the engine but it’s safe to expect a new state of tune for the M279 twin-turbo V12, which itself is derived from the M277 that powers the 600 cars. The ‘650’ badging could easily point to a peak 650 PS (with the engine making 630 PS in the AMG 65 models, and another derivative making 670 PS in the AMG 65 Blacks). A peak 1,000 Nm of torque is also expected. Whether it gets a 9G-Tronic or a 9SS (AMG SpeedShift multi-clutch unit) nine-speed auto ‘box remains to be seen.
The S 650 Cabriolet will attempt to take on the Rolls-Royce Dawn, while surely eyeing the prestigious Phantom Drophead Coupé. Needless to say, the Bentley Continental GTC Speed will also be in its crosshairs. Its price will be upwards of Rs 4 crore upon arrival in India, surely.
Stay tuned for more details as they surface.
