Benecke-Kalico recently launched its Acella range of high quality and soft-texture leatherette for automobile interiors. Properties of the leatherette include anti-aging and wear resistance, and the company claims that various automotive manufacturers use its products for seating areas, instrument panels, door inserts, gear stick and hand brake cowling, and soft-trim headliners.
Acella is claimed to be much more cost effective and have consistent quality (grain, colour, thickness, and density) as compared to leather, along with a customisable design. The Acella Eco line does not use volatile tanning and finishing agents, and is composed of 50% renewable raw material. Acella Eco is already standard fitment in the new Volvo XC60, which was added to the list of hypoallergenic vehicles of the Swedish Asthma and Allergy Association in late 2009.
