Maruti Suzuki India announced that they will sell 1 million (10 lakh) green, clean-energy cars over the next few years and also took the wraps off the Concept Futuro-e.

‘Mission Green Million’ aims to sell over one million green cars over the next few years, highlighting Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to the environment. To achieve this milestone, the manufacturer will offer CNG, hybrid and electric models. Taking into account the CNG and Smart Hybrid vehicles sold thus far, Maruti Suzuki have already sold a million cars in India.

As part of their green initiative, Maruti Suzuki also hosted the global premiere of their Futuro-e concept – an SUV coupé concept. Commenting on the announcement, Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “Concept Futuro-e is a design study. It presents possibilities of a new global design language for the SUV segment. The segment has recently seen a tremendous surge in popularity. A coupé styled SUV is a first from Maruti Suzuki stable and we are confident customers will like it.”

The light bars that constitute the headlamps and tail-lamps complement the Concept Futuro-e’s sharp, sleek lines. The silhouette leans towards the aerodynamic and sporty side while the large wheels and muscular wheel arches bring out the butch SUV character of this concept. The purple-tinted glass and designer wheels further add to the Futuro-e’s futuristic charm.

The interior features a blue and ivory contrast. A perfect colour combination because Maruti Suzuki claim that the interiors have been inspired by geo-organic structural forms. The dashboard is a wide, sweeping array that Maruti Suzuki call ‘Human Machine Interface’. It further develops into a seamless display of vehicle-related information using layered secondary screens. The manufacturer also mentioned that the flexible swivel travel seats add to the occupants’ comfort and allow them to use the infotainment features easily.

Maruti Suzuki have kept mum about the powertrain options for the Concept Futuro-e but we can expect hybrid and pure EV platforms when this reaches production stage.
