Home / News / Audi takes number 1 spot in India

Audi_1_webAudi, part of the Volkswagen Group, have secured number one spot in India after they overtook Mercedes-Benz and BMW in car sales for the first quarter of 2013.

A leading daily reported that the Ingolstadt-based manufacturer sold 2,616 cars from January to March 2013, a 15% YoY increase. Mercedes-Benz sold 2,009 cars, registering a growth of 5%, and putting them ahead of BMW, who have slipped from the number 1 spot and moved down to number 3, with sales of just 1,465 cars – 55 of which were from Mini.

Head of Audi India, Michael Perschke, stated that he expects a competitive year ahead and Audi’s lead should last not just for the first quarter, but all through the year.

Audi’s has been busy introducing new models and facelifts, with the new Q3 and facelifted A4 racking up the numbers, apart from other popular models like the A6 and A8 saloon, Q5 and Q7 SUVs and the A7 Sportback tourer. Their sportscar range is equally desirable with their TT Coupé and the newly-introduced revamped track-tool, the R8 supercar. With even more introductions planned for this year, we wouldn’t doubt their success either.
