Toyota’s most popular car in India, the Innova, is set for a major change with the all new car coming in soon.
The all-new Innova is now featured on the company’s Indonesian website. Called the Kijang Innova, it sports a more modern and sportier front face, with a butch grille and pronounced air-dam. The addition of projector headlamps, which mayor may not make it here, also add to the contemporary appearance. The rear will also feature a similar restyled look with sharper tail-lamp clusters. As a result, the new Innova looks sleeker and also promises to be larger. Tat means better passenger room, with the same seating configurations expected to continue.
We also believe that the 2.5-litre D-4D engine presently powering the car, with 102 PS and 200 Nm, will be dropped in favour of the more modern and even more powerful VNT version of the 2.5-litre D-4D common-rail turbo-diesel unit with 144 PS and 343 Nm, as seen in the Fortuner, still harnessed by the five-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels.
Whether Toyota Kirloskar India will tune it down remains to be seen. Either way, we would like to see a bump up in power, because, after all these years, the Innova still remains a smart choice of car for all kinds of people with varied applications, especially those with large families and frequent trips out of town.
We expect more details soon, so stay tuned for updates as and when they arise.
