TVR (2)

The 2015 edition of the Valley Run in Aamby Valley was a petrol-head’s delight.

On most mornings in Aamby valley, you can hear birds chirping, cow bells ringing in the distance, an occasional bleat from a lost goat, the rustling of the leaves, and the sporadic grunts of a tractor. However this Saturday, the serenity is pierced by the sounds of howling engines, the pungent odour of burning rubber, the whistle of a turbo and the chaos that surrounds a drag race! In terms of spending quality time on a weekend, blasting down an airstrip that sits atop a plateau counts as a pretty neat option. Organized by Elite Octane Inc., The Valley Run (TVR) 2015 kicked off with a bang with over 235 participants competing on 140 superbikes and 95 supercars.

The event played host to legions of drag race enthusiasts from across the nation. Entries included everything ranging from the modest 100cc 2-stroke contraptions to the more exotic Lamborghinis and Aston Martins and everything in between! The superbike category got the crowd’s adrenaline pumping with rolling wheelies and rubber-smoking burnouts. Superbikes at the event included the Suzuki GSX-R 600, Honda CBR 600RR, Yamaha YZF-R6, the Suzuki GSX- 1300R Hayabusa , Triumph Speed Triple, and the Ducati 848. Locking horns with the Ducati Diavel was the Yamaha V-Max.

Amongst the 4-wheeled extremists, the Race Concepts built turbocharged SOHC Honda stole the show by clocking a blistering 12.3 seconds on the quarter-mile run making it the fastest Honda in the country. In addition to this, supercars like the Lamborhini Murciélago, Porsche 911 Turbo, Nissan GT-R, Audi R8, Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante and the BMW Z4 also made an appearance.

Ali Fazal, who is due to play a role in the upcoming Furious 7 movie alongside Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel also made an appearance at the event to promote the movie. The drag-racing scenario in the country is in its nascent stages and with increasing number of entries and TVR becoming an annual event, one can see the sport growing in the coming years. As of now, we can’t wait for the next edition of The Valley Run.
