Mini_PacemanMini will whet the appetites of its enthusiastic fans with the new Mini John Cooper Works (JCW) Paceman edition, to be unveiled at the January 2013 Detroit Motor Show.

The car will be the seventh in the iconic Mini lineup. It will be powered by Mini’s 1.6 litre turbo petrol engine with a six-speed manual transmission as standard or a six-speed auto as an option. There is 221 PS on tap at 6,000 RPM and 280 Nm torque between 1,900-5,000 RPM, with the overboost between 2,100-4,500 RPM increasing the torque to 300 Nm. This helps the car accelerate from 0-100 kph in 6.9 seconds and move on to a top speed of 225 kph (223 kph for the auto).

The car will also feature the ALL4 four-wheel-drive system as standard with an electromagnetic centre differential for distributing drive between the front and rear axles. The rear axle gets around 50% of the power in normal driving, and 100% of the power under extreme conditions.

The car rides on sports suspension at a ride height lowered by 10mm from the standard height. Stability and traction are taken care of by dynamic stability control (DSC) and dynamic traction control (DTC). The sportiness is further reinforced with 18-inch light alloy wheels (19-inch as options), an aerodynamics kit, and JCW logos on the grille, boot and door sills.

The car will be priced higher than the Countryman JCW and will go on sale in 2013.
