After a multitude of renderings, opinions and speculations, Ford silence the masses with their all-new Mustang. It’s modern, it’s curvy. but it’s no less aggressive and it still brings the power! More importantly, it’s the first Mustang to be sold in Europe and Asia – we’re going to get this pony car!
Moray Callum, Executive Design Director at Ford of The Americas said, ” You only get one chance to make a first impression, and when you see this car you immediately see a Mustang strong and true .”
The 2015 Mustang resurrects the trademark Fastback design with a the steep rear window only accenting the sleek profile further. The roof is lower and the rear fenders are wider, affording a lower and wider stance, perceived not just as sportier, but more aggressive as well. Furthering this aspect are the shark-nose front end and the trapezoidal grille, which add more mass to the front profile. For convertible seekers, the new top cloth aids cabin noise insulation and also tucks in faster, providing a no less sleek profile when motoring with the top down.
There are three powerplants announced at launch. A 3.7-litre V6 motor starts off the range, making 304 PS and 366 Nm of torque. However, the big news, as speculated earlier, is the addition of the new EcoBoost engine. While the world was expecting a tuned up 2.0-litre turbo-four, Ford have created a special 2.3-litre turbocharged and direct-injected four-cylinder motor making “more than 309 PS and 407 Nm of torque”, in the words of the company spokesperson. The final choice is the one offered in the Mustang GT. The 5.0-litre V8 engine has been fettled to produce 426 PS and 529 Nm of torque. Convention undoubtedly speaks of a Shelby later on, and if the present model is anything to go by, we can expect nothing short of a fire-breathing monster when the time comes. The present Shelby Mustang GT500 uses a 5.8-litre supercharged V8 making 662 PS; one of the few American production cars cracking the 200 mph (321.86 km/h) barrier.
All the models will be left-hand-drive, while it is widely expected that right-hand-drive models of select versions will be offered in various eastern markets as well.
“Ford Mustang inspires passion like no other car,” said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, global product development. “The visceral look, sound and performance of Mustang resonates with people, even if they’ve never driven one. Mustang is definitely more than just a car – it is the heart and soul of Ford.”
The 2015 Mustang will go on sale in India following its global launch. Whether we get the V8 models remains to be seen, but the iconic badge and accompanying soundtrack are sure to find many homes when it does arrive.
