All Gujarat Institute of Driving, Technical Training and Research (AGIDTTR) has achieved a new milestone of training 10,000 tribal youth.
The AGIDTTR was set up as a joint effort between the Ministry of Tribal Development (Gujarat) and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd in 2009. The aim was to train tribal youth in professional driving so as to make them eligible for better employment opportunities.
The facility is aimed at enriching the tribal youth in the Eastern belt who work on farms and in construction sites. The 45-day residential program imparts a wholesome training programme to the youth with subjects like basic English-speaking, table manners, workplace etiquette, yoga, crafts, map reading and entrepreneurship.
Driving training is spread over Light Motor Vehicles (LMV), Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMV), HMV trucks and forklifts. Maruti Suzuki are also planning on introducing a course for Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV).
Maruti Suzuki started the driving institutes in 2000 as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. Right now they manage six such institutes in association with the respective State Governments.
R S Kalsi, Executive Director, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “Our objective is to make the students employment ready through driving training and soft skills, and help them get suitable employment.”
