We have exclusive spy shots of a new Mercedes-Benz GLE-Cabriolet, a two-door, open-top SUV for those who want to be different.
The new GLE-Class, formerly M-Class, has been chosen to take on the upcoming Range Rover Evoque Cabriolet and thus, has dropped its top as well as two doors. It should provide all-road motoring pleasure with the added all-road ability for complete peace of mind.
Don’t expect to see 250 CDI badging, because this is a performance machine after all. The entry model however, is a diesel, the new GLE 350 d with 265 PS and 620 Nm of torque paired to the new 9G-Tronic automatic and rear-wheel drive only.
There are more powerful petrols on offer with the GLE 450 Cabriolet getting a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 with 367 PS and 520 Nm. The GLE 500 meanwhile gets a 4.7-litre twin-turbo V8 with 435 PS and 700 Nm of torque, and is the only 4MATIC model on offer. Want more? We here there’s an AMG GLE 63 S Cabriolet with all of 510 PS from the new 4.0-litre BiTurbo V8.
How soon can you buy one? Well, since this is our way of pulling an April Fool’s Day prank, we hope Mercedes think it’s a good idea and builds it.
That spy shot? Here it is:
