The Volkswagen Virtus scored a stellar five-star rating in a series of crash-tests conducted by the Global New Car Assessment Program

Story: Kurt Morris

One of the first sedans in India to ever receive five stars for both adult and child occupant safety is the Volkswagen Virtus. It received a five-star rating in the most recent series of crash-tests conducted by the Global New Car Assessment Program (GNCAP). This underscores once again Volkswagen’s dedication to unparalleled safety; a tribute to the incredible German engineering.

The Volkswagen Virtus’ robust structure has also been lauded for its capability to protect the car’s occupants well in the event of a crash. This car is equipped with 40 safety features and the impressive crash-test results highlight Volkswagen’s commitment to safety, making the Virtus a reliable and trustworthy choice for buyers around the world.

The Virtus achieved a score of 29.71 out of a possible 34 and 42 out of a possible 49 for adult and child occupant protection respectively. Volkswagen’s commitment to safety is evident in the way their cars are designed and engineered. The Virtus, for instance, features a strong chassis that is designed to ensure the maximum protection for its occupants. Its steel construction is strategically devised to ensure that it can withstand impact and transfer the forces away from the cabin in case of a collision. Additionally, the car comes equipped with several active safety features such as Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control, Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), and Auto Hill Hold, all of which help the driver stay in control even in challenging situations. These features work together to ensure that the car remains stable and safe, thus inspiring the driver to handle any situation with confidence.

Passive safety features are equally important and the Virtus does not disappoint in this regard either. It comes equipped with three-point seat-belts for all five occupants, ISOFIX child-seat anchors for added protection for young passengers, side-impact protection beams, crumple zones, and a total of six airbags—two front, two side, and curtain airbags on either side—all of which work together to minimize the risk of injury to occupants in the unfortunate event of an accident.

Volkswagen believe in both prevention and protection. Therefore, the car’s active and passive safety features have been designed with this principle in mind.

Active safety and passive safety features work together to ensure that the Virtus offers a safe and secure driving experience. The driver assistance systems such as ESC and Brake Assist are among the central features that actively intervene to help defuse critical situations and prevent accidents from occurring in the first place. These systems, along with the car’s sturdy construction and thoughtful design, make the Virtus the highest performing sedan.

Safety extends beyond Volkswagen’s products to include their customer service. They offer thorough safety training to their clients and frequently conduct safety awareness campaigns to inculcate and encourage safe driving habits. Thus, the Virtus is a vehicle that best embodies the marque’s dedication to safety.

Volkswagen have reinvigorated the sedan segment with the Virtus’ stylish design, robust build, engaging performance, and superlative efficiency. Its sleek and modern exterior, spacious and luxurious interior, and a plethora of safety and convenience features mentioned earlier make it an ideal choice for discerning car-buyers. Furthermore, this car is available with two engine options. The first is the 1.0 TSI petrol engine that delivers a maximum output of 115 hp and 178 Nm. This engine comes paired with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. For those seeking more power, the Virtus GT Plus comes with a 1.5 TSI engine with 150 hp and 250 Nm. This engine is available with a six-speed manual or the signature seven-speed dual-clutch automatic DirectShift Gearbox (DSG).

The Virtus reaffirms its status as a premium sedan, designed for a perfect combination of safety, performance, and efficiency. It offers a smooth and comfortable driving experience thanks to its fine-tuned suspension system and responsive handling. The powerful yet fuel-efficient TSI engines also make it an economical choice for daily commuting as well as for long drives. The spacious and well-appointed interior offers plentiful room for all passengers, while its modern features, such as the touchscreen infotainment and climate control, add to comfort and convenience.

The Volkswagen Virtus is truly an outstanding sedan that offers a perfect blend of style, safety, comfort, performance, and efficiency.
