Toyota_LC_Prado_1Over the years Toyota’s Land Cruiser Prado has always been associated with being a no-nonsense vehicle. Recently, images of a refreshed Prado for 2014 have surfaced.

One look and you will see that the Prado has gone more modern. The new front-end sports LED headlamps and the fog lamps also get a much-needed reshaping and look good. Chrome had been abundantly utilized on the new Prado as the thick bars of chrome that stem from the chunky new front bumper come together to form a massive, chrome-encapsulated radiator grille.

The rear-end is much more subtle, the tail-lamps now house clear-lens blocks and there’s a big fat bar of chrome running above the license plate housing. Toyota is now also providing 17” and 18” alloy wheel options. The interiors too lend a fresh aura. A revised instrument cluster is home to a new 4.2-inch TFT multi-information display. A 7-inch touchscreen display graces the dashboard and new rotary switch replaces the bucketload of buttons that were present on the previous avatar of the Prado.

Internationally, Toyota will offer a 4.0-litre, V6 petrol too, but what we’re interested in is the torquey oil-burner we’ll be getting: an upgraded version of the 3.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel motor that does duty on the current Prado. In the new Prado, the 2,995cc mill churns out 187 PS and 420 Nm of torque, about 15 PS and 10 Nm up on the older spec version.

We expect Toyota India to bring the new Land Cruiser Prado to our market post the Auto Expo 2014.
