Škoda have used the Shanghai Motor Show to share their vision for change with the Vision E Concept, which is the Czech manufacturer’s first electric car.
The new Škoda Vision E Concept is a five-door SUV coupé which boasts a claimed 500 km of range on electric power and meets level 3 requirements for autonomous driving. Škoda plan on bringing five purely electric models to the company’s product portfolio by 2025. The Škoda Superb will be offered with a plug-in hybrid option by 2019.
The Vision E Concept is 4,645 mm long, 1,917 mm wide and 1,550 mm tall, giving the car great road presence. The long wheelbase of 2,850 mm, as well as the short overhangs at the front and rear, gave the designers a chance to create more spacious interiors. The elevated seating position typical of SUV models and the generous space combine with a dynamic silhouette and gently sloping roof line in the style of a coupé.
The Vision E Concept is powered by powerful lithium-ion batteries which generate a specific output of 225 kW (305 PS), which gives the concept car a top speed of 180 km/h and a claimed range of 500 km. The two electric engines cooperate with maximum efficiency and drive the Vision E over all four wheels. The front and rear-wheel drive is suitably adjusted to ensure the highest degree of stability, dynamism and safety at all times.
The Vision E provides the companies outlook to autonomous driving which will be coming to their vehicles soon. The Vision E can operate independently in traffic jams, go into autopilot on motorways, stay in lane and swerve, carry out overtaking manoeuvres, independently search for free parking spaces and park and leave parking spaces alone. This is enabled by various sensors with different ranges and numerous cameras that constantly monitor the traffic situation.
