Nissan India has introduced their latest offering in the form of a compact crossover – the Terrano.
The fourth-generation model of the Terrano is based on the Renault Duster, and aims at extending the product portfolio while offering a different sort of style to buyers looking for something slightly different when comparing the French and Japanese brands. The Renault-Nissan alliance has brought in several products which offer unique features in their class with a well-performing package.
The Duster has seen huge success in India and Nissan wants to grab a piece of the pie as well. The new Terrano is being produced locally and features the Nissan-family design which resembles the Pathfinder and Patrol models sold internationally. The dynamism of the design is further accentuated by the big wheel arches, 16” machined alloy wheels and clean lines, which give it a muscular stance. The interior has been treated with better quality fabric and purposeful additions to the door trim and the layout overall. There has also been a noticeable improvement in the quality of plastics; something which was pointed out as one of very few negatives in the Duster.
The addition of more equipment sees the Terrano aimed at a market which makes use of modern gadgetry on a daily basis. Thus, the Terrano will sport a navigation system and improved communication features on the top variants. Coming to the drivetrains, the options for the Terrano will be the same as those offered on the Duster. The famous K9K diesel engine is under the bonnet here too. The 1.5-litre dCi turbo-diesel unit will be offered in 85 PS and 110 PS states of tune. The former makes 200 Nm of torque and is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission while the latter makes 248 Nm and is paired to a 6-speed unit. The petrol variant, if launched, will be powered by the 1.6-litre unit making 104 PS and 145 Nm of torque and mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. All models will be front driven.
The new Nissan Terrano has been unveiled and will be available for pre-booking at dealers around the country ‘for a sub-10 lakh price point’ from September 1st. The launch will take place on the 1st of October. We expect two petrol variants and five diesel variants, with six colour choices.
