FIAT have taken the covers off their ‘Aegea Project.’ The Aegea project is essentially a plan by the global carmaker to commence manufacturing operations in Turkey. They’ll be building the Aegea compact sedan there, a car that was designed in Italy, by developed in FIAT’s with Tofaş R&D facility in Turkey.
On the Aegea compact sedan, engine options are abound with two MultiJet II turbo-diesel engines and two petrol ones available, pushing out power outputs figures between 95 and 120hp across the board. As is the norm these days, both automatic and diesel transmission configurations will also be made available for customers to choose from.
It’s also very clear that the Aegea while it may or may not appear in India, isn’t being built with India in mind based on the cars dimensions. A compact sedan in India is pretty much guaranteed to be built under the sub-four meter threshold to take advantage of our nation’s excise rebate on cars that fall under this category. However, the Aegea is built to accommodate maximum comfort in this small car, because the numbers stand at 4.5-meter of length, 1.78-meter width, a wheelbase of 2.64-meter and 1.48-meter in terms of height. All this should make for a decently spacious interior and FIAT have also released the boot space volume for the Aegea – over 510 litres which would slightly shade the capacity of its Linea sibling that’s sold here.
The inside of the car, again, following modern norms, will be packed to the brim with gizmos and gadgetry. A 5” colour-touch screen Uconnect infotainment system, AUX, Bluetooth, USB, and iPod connectivity, steering mounted controls, and rear parking camera and TomTom navigation too based on the variant.
There is no official word on whether the Aegea will be sold anywhere apart from Turkey at the moment, and as mentioned earlier, its Indian arrival prospects are shrouded in doubt, but we can only wait and see how it all pans out.
