BMW India will introduce the new 5 Series in India on October 10. The new car, an updated F10, features minor changes in design but is vastly improved under the skin.
The plethora of tweaks and additions to the technology that goes into the car are significant and deserving for the 5; something which will allow it to claw back much of the advantage it once enjoyed.
The new BMW 5 Series will continue to offer the TwinPower Turbo engines in petrol and diesel guises. The 520i petrol and the 520d, 525d and 530d diesel models will be the ones on sale here. There is no confirmation of the 535i turbo-six petrol as yet, but we will have to wait and see if BMW decides to play the performance card. Speaking of performance, the new M5 will also follow suit. Overseas, BMW have taken advantage of the facelift to offer a new entry-level variant, the 518d, powered by a 143 PS / 320 Nm version of the 2.0-litre engine; the same spec doing duty in the recently launched 1 Series. However, we doubt that they will offer the 518d in India.
With rampant price and exchange rate fluctuations , expect the new 5 to be priced at a slight premium when launched in a couple of weeks time.
