The eagerly awaited global SUV from Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), has been launched in India
and will soon be launched in South Africa and other international markets. Positioned above the Scorpio, the new sport utility vehicle has been christened XUV 500 (pronounced as XUV ‘5 double Oh’) and will be available with an introductory price ranging between Rs 10.80-12.88 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi), which might be revised after three months.
This is the first M&M SUV featuring a monocoque construction instead of the conventional body on ladder construction. This would give the XUV 500 a sedan like driveability, which is in accordance with the current international trends and also underlines Mahindra’s aggressive plans of becoming a major global automobile maker.
The new Mahindra SUV is available in three variants – W6 4×2, W8 4×2 and W8 4×4, all powered by a strong 2.2 litre CRDe mHawk engine that can churn out 140 PS, 330Nm and is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. Safety has also been taken care of, as all models come equipped with ABS with EBD and airbags as standard.
Ex-showroom Delhi price:
XUV 500 W6: 4×2: Rs.10.8 Lakhs
XUV 500 W8 4×2: Rs.11.95 Lakhs
