A mouthful and an eyeful, the new swoopy GLE63 AMG Coupé 4MATIC from Mercedes-AMG is set for launch at the Detroit Auto Show.
The GLE-Class Coupé is an all-new introduction, and the first of the new G-nomenclature revamp from the company. The GLE-Class, however, will be the new M-Class, but, like the GLE-Class Coupé, will resound the lines and dynamics of the E-Class. The GLE-Class Coupé is the four-door sports activity coupé from Stuttgart, one spotted several times earlier while being tested. It will go head-on against the BMW X6 globally, and the Acura ZDX in the US.
Offering the comfort of a sedan, the sportiness of a coupé, four-door practicality and SUV-like all-road ability was the point of the segment back then when the X6 arrived. However, the segment has evolved and the new GLE-Coupé hopes to take the game forward. Mercedes-Benz had introduced the GLE-Class in 350 d, 400 and 450 guises only, the AMG model, complete with a 585-PS 5.5-litre twin-turbocharged V8, is also due for launch in Motor City.
The GLE-Class Coupé will sport the new nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission as well as 4MATIC all-wheel drive from the get-go. However, expect the driveline to be tuned for efficiency in the Benz, with front-biased drive, and for maximum sportiness and grip in the AMG. All four models should arrive in India soon after their global launch.
As we reported earlier, Mercedes-Benz are revamping their SUV nomenclature to all be under the ‘G’ umbrella. The GLA is the first, the GLK will become the GLC, and be more C-Class than earlier car. The GLE and GLE-Coupé are next in line, while the GL will turn into the GLS, packing more luxury than before to be more in tune to that the S-Class offers. The legendary Gelandewagen or G-Wagon will continue as the alpha G.
