When India’s biggest car maker launches a brand new premium compact crossover, the details are always worth looking at. So here they are…
Story: Team Car India
India’s largest automobile manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki, launched the S-CROSS premium compact crossover today, starting at Rs 8.34 lakh, ex-showroom in Delhi. This is the first of the Maruti Suzuki products to be retailed via the Nexa chain that the company launched recently.
The S-CROSS will be available in two engine variants. Of course, among the two is Maruti’s tried and tested and proven more than once 1.3 DDiS, now christened, DDiS 200 to denote the 1.3-litre diesel engine’s torque output. The bigger news however is that Maruti Suzuki are introducing a larger 1.6-litre DDiS 320 (christened so for similar reasons) for the first time in India with the S-CROSS. While the former uses a five-speed manual gearbox, the latter uses a six-speed manual ‘box for transmission duties.
Car India in fact drove the latter recently and you will be able to read the review of the new S-CROSS DDiS 320 in the August issue of the magazine, which is also our 10th anniversary bumper issue and should be out on newsstands soon.
The new S-CROSS will be available in four trim lines – Sigma, Delta, Zeta, Alpha, with Sigma being the base trim line and available only with the DDiS 200. There are also five colour options to choose from – Pearl Arctic White, Urban Blue, Caffeine Brown, Premium Silver and Granite Grey.
