Lamborghini have launched the all-new Huracán in two-wheel-drive guise at Rs 2.99 crore (ex-Delhi). We say all-new, because it really is.
With the launch of the rear-wheel-drive-only Huracán LP 580-2, Lamborghini have given India its most accessible raging bull yet. The 580-2 is simply more than a 610-4 with 30 less horsepower, no transfer box and a dead front axle; it’s essentially mostly built from the ground up.
Visually, the dash-two gets a restyled front bumper and lightly reshaped nose to improve front-end grip at speed, whereas at the rear, a lip spoiler and diffuser manage air flow effectively enough for it to not require and active rear-wing. Where the 610 dash-four car has a 47:53 weight distribution, the 580 dash-two has 40:60. It gets the same hybrid aluminium and carbon-fibre monocoque chassis. The suspension is comprised of steel springs and a specifically-developed stabiliser and anti-roll bar, with the magneto-rheological suspension (MRS) set-up now offered as an option. The steering too has been tweaked and made more suitable for rear-wheel-drive application. The Lamborghini Piattaforma Inerziale (LPI) sensor-system placed at the core of the car’s centre of gravity analyses all 3D-movement of the car – roll, pitch and yaw – and helps the other electronic nannies to provide maximum stability and traction.
The Huracán 580-2 is the successor to the Gallardo 550-2, and, as such, the engine is the same 5.2-litre 90° V10 naturally-aspirated direct-and-indirect injection mechanical work of art found in the Huracán 610-4, that now puts out 580 PS at 8,000 RPM, with 540 Nm of peak torque, 20 down on the 610-4, coming in at 6,500 RPM. Crucial to note is that – thanks to modern electronic engine management systems – 75 per cent i.e. over 400 Nm of torque is available from 1,000 RPM. Furthermore, the engine is Euro 6-compliant with a claimed 278 g/km of CO2 and an efficiency figure of 8.4 km/l combined.
The transmission is the seven-speed Lamborghini Doppia Frizione (LDF) dual-clutch automatic. The rear uses Pirelli P-Zero 305/30 ZR19s to put the power down, while the front grips with 245/35 ZR19s. Brakes are 365-mm steel rotors up front with eight-piston aluminium callipers with 356-mm ones at the back, bitten by four-piston callipers.
The big news is the weight. All those changes have an effect on mass and the 580-2 tips the scales at just 1,389 kg (dry) – 33 kg less than the 610-4 – giving it a power-to-weight ratio of 417.5 PS/tonne. Performance is promising, obviously, with the claimed 0-100 km/h sprint taking just 3.4 seconds, a full half-second up on the Gallardo 550-2; 0-200 takes 10.1 seconds, and the top speed is 320 km/h.
The order books are open now and the Huracán LP 580-2 can be yours for Rs 2.99 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi). With all taxes, that works out to something in the region of Rs 3.3 crore on road in Delhi, while the Pune on-road price works out to around Rs 3.8 crore.
