11-July-CI-Mon-11General Motors India showcased their Beat battery electric vehicles (BEV) recently.

The event was held to mark the World Environment Day. The aim was to display GM’s expertise in battery-operated vehicles and their cost-effectiveness with respect to Indian conditions. Such demonstrations were also organised earlier in Korea, China and Germany.

The Beat BEVs are powered by a 270-kg, 300-cell lithium-ion battery which can generate about 20 kWh. The power is anticipated to last up to roughly 130 km under normal driving conditions.

The battery can be recharged in eight hours and can operate in temperature a range of -20 degrees to 45
degrees Celsius. However, the company has no plans of introducing the vehicle in India in the near future.
