Lamborghini will soon add a new member to the famed Gallardo line-up – the new and most extreme Gallardo LP570-4 Squadra Corse, said to bring race track performance to the street legal world.
The car is based on the Gallardo Super Trofeo from the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo, the world’s fastest one-make series. The car will have its world premiere at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.
‘Squadra Corse’ is the new department at Automobili Lamborghini that takes care of all motorsport activities including GT3 and the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo championships in Europe, Asia and America. The new Squadra Corse and the race cars use the same V10 engine, rear wing (achieving up to three times the load of the Gallardo LP560-4), and removable engine hood with quick-release system. Carbon composite material is used for the rear wing, the hood, and various other components. This helps to keep the dry weight down to 1340 kg, undercutting the LP560-4 by 70 kg and allowing a weight-to-power ratio of 2.35 kg per horse.
The V10 powerplant generates 570 PS at 8,000 rpm with the unique firing order giving the striking sound heard in motor racing. This takes the car from 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and 0-200 km/h in 10.4 seconds, with a top speed of 320 km/h. Stopping power comes from production-standard carbon-ceramic brakes. Transmission duties are handled by a robotized e-gear six-speed transmission with steering wheel paddles, which sends power to all four wheels.
The exterior design of the Squadra Corse shows its racing genes and Italian roots, with a decal strip along the flank in green, white and red, the colors of the Italian flag. The car comes in four colours – Giallo Midas (yellow), Bianco Monocerus (white), Grigio Thalasso (grey) and in Rosso Mars (red). A matte black finish on the large rear wing is combined with contrasts in body color. High-gloss black is used for the hood, front air intakes, rear diffuser and 19-inch forged wheels, with options of red, black or yellow for the brake callipers.
The minimalist and sporty interior is dominated by carbon fibre and Alcantara. The underside of the dashboard, the central panel of the seat cushion, and the backrest are all in Alcantara, while the door panels, racing seats and center console cover are made from carbon fiber. The hand-brake frame, the middle of the centre console, the lower rim of the steering wheel, the trim around the main and secondary instrument panels, the door handles, and the handle for opening the glove box all use carbon. The racing bucket seats can be replaced with comfort seats.
Enthusiasts and prospective customers can participate in the ‘Esperienza’ events organised by the Squadra Corse department for a chance of a first test drive and a peek into the world of Lamborghini. Driver training and initial steps towards real-life racing are provided by the Lamborghini Academies. Young drivers can get a first race experience from the Super Trofeo series, with more seasoned drivers competing in the Lamborghini.
