The all-new BMW X4 and X6 are now on sale in Germany, and if we had to, we’d bet it won’t take too long before either of them arrive in India as well.
The X4 is, like it’s big brother the X6, is a Sports Activity Coupé, shown at motor shows in the past year. It retains the look, that of an SUV, built off a car platform, raised off the ground and given a tapered roof-line. The X4 is 4,671mm long, 1,881mm wide and 1,624mm high and runs a 2,810mm wheelbase. Though it may seem small, it weighs from 1,810 kg, and that’s the base petrol. While it does present itself as a unique offering, how well it hits off with Indian buyers remains to be seen.
In Germany, the X4 is offered with everything from the four-cylinder 184PS 20i petrol and 190PS 20d diesel to the six-cylinder 306PS 35i and 313PS 35d. xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive is standard. Pricing starts from €45,600 (Rs 36.5 lakh), just €6,500 (Rs 5.2 lakh) away from its bigger sibling, the X5, in its basic guise. Don’t expect it to cost anywhere that amount here in India though. That said, it will have its hands full when it comes to competition from pricing and not body styles.
The new X6 meanwhile gets the same refreshments as the new X5 which was launched earlier in India. The most noticeable differences are the sharper front-end with larger headlamp clusters and the swoopier, narrower roof and window line. Power-wise, we can expect the 40d TwinPower Turbo straight-six diesel, again with 313 PS and 630 Nm, with xDrive as standard. The X6 xDrive 40d was on sale in India until recently, but with dwindling sales and the new model coming in, BMW India pulled it off the shelves.
