The Beijing Auto Show also had another interesting debut in the form of a Coupé SUV concept.
The three-pointed star have tried their hand with the ML, GLA, GLK, GL and G-Class SUVs, but they never quite had something to take on the BMW X6 – something with loads of appeal, style and road presence with inversely proportional practicality. And now, they do!
The new Concept Coupé SUV from Mercedes looks set to take on the very limited four-door Sports Activity Coupé segment, which so far only has the BMW X6 and Acura ZDX, the latter of which is only sold in the US. With the new big, sloping-roof SUV, Mercedes hope to claw in more orders for their SUV line and, frankly, the Concept Coupé does look quite attractive. It features 305/45 ZR22 footwear, so it should be fast too!
Going by its size, we already see a 3.0-litre V6 diesel in a whatever-class 350 CDI and a bigger 500 petrol with that 4.7-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet. A bigger 63 AMG is a given considering there is always someone out there who wants to take a two-and-a-half tonne SUV sideways at over 160 km/h. GLS-Class maybe? I like that, a GLS63 AMG! Fingers crossed.
