Chevrolet have officially announced that the 2015 Corvette Z06 will deliver 650 PS!
The new Z06 has been a long awaited model and Chevy were quick to put all rumours to rest with their announcement that the new car would produce the dual 650 mark – 650 PS and 650 lb-ft (880 Nm) of torque. This rise comes from the massive supercharged 6.2-litre V8 engine – the LT4 – which makes all of that 650 PS at 6,400 RPM with the peak 880 Nm of torque coming in from 3,600 RPM. A major point to note is that 90% of the peak torque (800 Nm) is available from 2,500 to 5,400 RPM. The engine boasts of many elements which allow this level of performance: direct injection, titanium intake valves, forged aluminium components and cylinder heads and an Eaton supercharger which spins up to 20,000 RPM. The big blown V8 drives the rear wheels via a 7-speed manual transmission, or an 8-speed automatic with paddle-shifters.
The Corvette Z06 offers more power (+10 PS) than even the 8.4-litre V10-engined SRT Viper. The Mustang GT500, however, still has a 12-PS edge, but it remains to be what the new model brings to the table. The deliveries of the 2015 Corvette Z06 will start in early-2015. Following the release of the right-hand drive Mustang, it’s been speculated for long that RHD versions of not just the Corvette, but the Camaro too, are likely to see the light of day. We can’t wait for that day!
