Japanese Tyre giants Yokohama, already popular due to their involvement with gaming franchise Need For Speed, are set to take their worldwide popularity to a whole new level after announcing a five year shirt sponsorship deal with one of the biggest football clubs in the world – Chelsea FC.

The deal, claimed to be worth £200 million (Rs 1860 crore approx) and spanning across 5 years beginning next season includes jersey sponsorship, branding at the stadium, and various other collaborations between the two parties.

In a ceremony held at Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge stadium, the deal was made official in the presence of Yokohama Rubber Chairman and CEO and Representative Director Tadanobu Nagumo and Yokohama Rubber Director and Managing Corporate Officer Hideto Katsuragawa, along with team Captain John Terry, and Manager Jose Mourinho.

Yokohama aren’t the first tyre company to venture into the world of premier league football, as Apollo tyres also have a massive commercial alliance with rivals Manchester United.
