Volvo India have launched a scintillating new variant of their humble sedan the S60 called the S60 Polestar at Rs 52.5 lakh (ex-Delhi). The standard S60 is a brilliant sedan however, the Polestar variant takes things to another level. The geniuses at Volvo’s Polestar division have turned the humble sedan into a sensible performance machine that is made for the sensible human being.
Unlike the competition, who simply throw a bigger engine under the bonnet, Volvo has approached things differently. They have tuned the 2.0-litre four-cylinder T6 engine in such a way that it delivers 367 PS and 470 Nm of torque. All thanks to a bigger turbocharger, a supercharger, new valves, valve springs and camshaft that allow the engine to breath better and produces the insane amount of power and torque from a four-cylinder engine. Transferring all the power to all the wheels is a Borg and Warner four-wheel drive system that is hooked up to a smart computer, which depending on the mode selected, transfers fifty percent power to front and the remaining fifty percent to the rear wheels. The eight-speed automatic transmission is also a brilliant gearbox with smooth and fast shift timings.
Polestar engineers have also worked their magic in the chassis and suspension department by putting Öhlins suspension on all four ends with a carbon-fiber strut brace at the front. The suspension of the S60 Polestar also comes with 80 percent stiffer springs, which aid handling and dampers that are adjustable for fine tuning the handling and ride-quality.
Volvo also worked on the steering to extract more feel and feedback for a more engaging experience. The Pilot Super Sport tyres are also special as they were developed by Michelin exclusively for the S60 Polestar. The interior of the car also gets sporty treatment with new leather upholstery, new road-going front bucket seats and carbon-fibre centre console.
But the main attraction of the Volvo S60 Polestar is the price tag of Rs 52.5 lakh (ex-Delhi). However, there are only 30 S60 Polestar cars coming to India.
