The North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) is just about a week away now, and Volkswagen have confirmed that they will display a new concept at the show. The concept is based on the latest edition of Volkswagen’s marquee – the Beetle, and is called the Beetle Dune.
The Beetle Dune is powered by the same 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that churns out 210 PS, as is available on the production model of the car, and also uses the same six-speed DSG twin-clutch gearbox driving front wheels.
The differences then, are in the looks department. The Dune has been given a vertical adjustment to the tune of 50mm making for better ground clearance, which is further enhanced by the fat 19-inch wheels it sits on. The body has also been revamped with new bumpers and side skirts also in place. The car also sports a ski-rack in the back, adding to that edgy, sports-derived look, and this rack can also be used to house a sandboard in case you feel like testing out its capabilities in the deserts of the world.
