The 2014 Auto Expo is just 3 days away, but manufacturers have already started taking the covers off their latest designs before they set up shop at New Delhi. Indian automotive bigwigs Tata are one such firm, as they have given the world its first look at not just one but two new cars – the Bolt and the Zest. Both cars have a few visual similarities that have been inspired by Tata’s new ‘DesigNext’ stylings, and a whole raft of technological features too, including LED accents on the fog lamps and projector headlamps.

Ranjit Yadav, President, Passenger Vehicles, Tata Motors touched upon the cars and Tata’s goals for the future; he said, “We at Tata Motors are delighted to showcase to the global market the much awaited next generation cars – the Zest, a stunning and exciting new compact sedan and the Bolt, a dynamic hatch. These cars have been engineered for global markets, through global teams across India, UK and Korea to set new standards in their respective segments. These cars are a true representation of out HorizoNext philosophy, with best-in-class offerings for performance that offers economy and efficiency.”

As Yadav mentions, the Bolt is a hatchback offering from Tata, while the Zest is a sedan. As part of Tata’s ‘DriveNext’ approach, They will both sport the new Revotron 1.2T, a turbocharged and intercooled 1.2-litre multi-point fuel-injected petrol engine, with a the Quadrajet diesel engine producing 90 PS and 200 Nm of torque, mated to an unprecedented 5-speed automatic manual transmission also on offer as an alternative.

Technology is covered through Tata’s ‘ConnectNext.’ This includes a HARMAN sound system, MapmyIndia as the integrated navigation system, and a Bluetooth-enabled 5-inch touchscreen that controls all of this. The technology isn’t limited to the cabin either, because the cars will also come equipped with an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Power Assisted System (EPAS), Cornering Stability technology and speed-sensitive power steering.
