The Cobra was produced between 1962-1967 and there have been several special editions and numerous models. However, 2015 marks the golden jubilee for the Shelby Cobra 427 and to commemorate this, the company has announced a limited production of 50 new examples.
All the special edition cars will feature the ‘50th Anniversary’ badges and will be numbered serially starting from CSX 4550 all the way up to CSX 4599. Available in fibre-glass and aluminium body options, the car will be available with a number of paint options. The fibre-glass models will be priced at Rs 75.90 lakhs ($ 119,995) and will be available only with Guardsman blue with Wimbledon white stripes whereas the Aluminium models will carry a price tag of Rs 1.13 crore ($179,995) and can be custom painted.
The special edition car will retain the retro racer styling and cues from the original car. The interiors will be available in premium Shelby vinyl and optional leather seats. Staying true to its racing roots, the car will feature 15-inch Shelby spec wheels. The mechanicals have been reworked to comply with modern standards and a number of new components like brakes, suspension linkages and coil springs will be used.
